In Arboretum - already colorful spring



The plant is commonly known as Bleeding Heart for its distinctive heart-shaped flowers and is native to Siberia, northern China, Korea, and Japan.

 


Lungwort, Common lungwort, Mary's tears or Our Lady's milk drops, is a herbaceous rhizomatous evergreen perennial plant

Virginia bluebells is a native wildflower with blue, bell-shaped flowers. found in moist woodlands and river flood plains. Other common names include Eastern bluebells, Virginia cowslip, and Lungwort oysterleaf.


Grape hyacinth is a mid-spring-flowering perennial bulb in the lily family, native to southeastern Europe. It is not a true hyacinth (genus Hyacinthus). The common name comes from the resemblance of the clusters of small, bell-shaped, cobalt-blue flowers to upside-down clusters of grapes. 

Ajuga, Blue Bugle, Bugleherb, Bugleweed, Bugle Weed, Carpet Bugle - is a broadleaf, evergreen to semi-evergreen, herbaceous perennial ground cover in the mint family. It is native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern Asia. Its compact, dense mat has beautiful small clusters of purple flowers which appear in mid to late spring. 
 
Spanish bluebell can be blue, pink or white in colour, with a faint scent and more open flowers than the English species.
Spanish bellflower or woodland hyacinth, is a bulbous perennial native to Spain, Portugal, and northwest Africa. Each bulb produces a clump of two to six strap-like leaves from which a stiff flower stalk arises, usually bearing up to 12 to 15 pendulous, bell-shaped, bluish-lavender flowers that arise from the center.
Yellow avalanche-lily is sometimes called Dogtooth violet although it’s not a violet. This species is also known as Glacier lily since it often appears at the edge of receding snow banks. Other common names include Trout lily, Snow lily, and Fawn lily.

Narcissus Hawera - the very popular and reliable, award-winning is a dwarf daffodil boasting 6–8 gracefully nodding, pale yellow, canary flowers on the stem, each mildly scented and decorated with star-shaped, slightly recurved petals. This dwarf daffodil produces up to 9 stems, giving the appearance of a cheerful bouquet in mid to late spring. 


Cowslip - Primula veris, Cowslip primrose  is an attractive flowering plant found in meadows and on woodland floors. Simple yet lovely, cowslips are synonymous with spring and Easter. Find them in woods and meadows during springtime.

Foamflower is a small, delicate native perennial with pretty, interesting foliage and small spikes of creamy white flowers.
