Mushrooms in Davidson River - the last days of summer and the beginning of autumn

On another walk along the Davidson River I found mushrooms again. This was a few days before the hurricane that passed through our area.

Oyster Mushrooms

Honey mushrooms

Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric, is a large, white-gilled, usually red mushroom with white spots.
This one is American fly agaric - yellow variety.

Turkey tail mushrooms  grows on the stumps and decaying wood of trees.
They have a long history in traditional Chinese medicine, where they are used as a tonic and to treat certain types of infections. Recent studies suggest that compounds in turkey tail mushrooms support the immune system and may have anti-cancer properties.

Parchment fungus is a common wood-decaying fungus that grows on dead deciduous trees, especially oaks.

Xeruloid fungi are often found around stumps and dead trees.

Pinesap - Fall flowering plants are characterized by a red color (earlier ones are yellow). Like Indian Pipe Pinesap does not photosynthesize, but derives its nourishment from fungi associated with roots, often oaks and pines.
