The English Chapel
"The littie church "in the valley by the wildwood" was founded in 1860 by Rev. A.F. English, a Methodist circuit rider. The preacher's father-in-law, Strawbridge Young, gave land for church for a token $5. Rev. English sawed lumber for the building at his Avery Creek mill and donated it to the church. By 1940, the old wooden building had all but fallen down, so the congregation pulled together to build the present rock church. The rock came from Davidson River, as well as from Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida as visitors brought rocks for the chapel. See how rocks spell cut the words "English Chapel" above the front entrance." information located in front of the chapel
