"Paper in dimension" - colorful world of Leo Monahan

"I call it 'paper in dimension'
because I've brought
traditional collage
and traditional paper sculpture
 together"
- Leo Monahan

In Arboretum's Baker Exhibit Center, Asheville North Carolina,
there is a new exhibit displaying the art of famous artist Leo Monahan
Leo Monahan creates modern arts, paper sculpture full of vibrant colors.
He cuts out the pieces of his designs - which are usually rendered first in sketches,
he paints them with an airbrush. Then he bends and folds them, then glues them into his fanciful compositions - he creates three dimensional pieces of art.

The artist uses plain white, fine quality drawing paper creating textured three-dimensional illustrations - birds in flight, flowers in bloom, different animals...
Leo Monahan prefers call his art not paper sculpture but "paper in dimension":
This way of creating the art was invented by him - nobody ever taught him about this way creating the sculptures, the arts.
In his art school The Chouinard Art Institute he was taught an organic way of working. And since then he continues to work organically.
