Buchanan Angel in Asheville



The historic Riverside Cemetery is located in the Montford Historic District of Asheville. It was founded in 1885 and planned as a garden style cemetery. 
The 87 acres of hillsides are filled with beautiful trees and shrub, and graves, beautiful sculptures and mausoleums. This cemetery is a resting place of many prominent citizens, including the famous authors Thomas Wolfe and O. Henry.
The Buchanan Angel is one of the most famous sculptures at this cemetery.
Tia angel was imported from Italy and was installed by W.O. Wolfe, father of Thomas.

The historic Highland Hospital in Montford, Asheville


Asheville in North Carolina became known for its psychiatric care after the opening of Highland Hospital in 1904; Highland Hospital enjoyed a national reputation.
The historic Highland Hospital was located in Montford, a residential area of ​​Asheville.
Originally called "Dr. Carroll's Sanatorium," it was founded by the famous psychiatrist Robert S. Carroll.
Homewood at 19 Zillicoa, the house of Dr.Carroll and his wife, Grace Potter Carrol




Highland Hall at 75 Zillicoa Street was built specifically for the hospital. This building housed a psychiatric facility. In a fire on the night of March 10, 1948, nine women died, among them Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald.




 
Rumbaugh House, Zillicoa Street, built in 1892 and considered one of the largest residences in the Montford area. This building housed the administration of Highland Hospital.
